You can do the following.

Soak them for 3-4 hours, recommended 4 times. (You can add soda or salt in water.)Rinse them with clean water.Put them into the fish tank.

It’s nomal that the color of the wood will get darkened as them will release tannins.

After the pretreatment, you will not get brown water.
